Potential FAQs

Who are you?

My name is Gabrijela. I’m a mother, wife, an aspiring birth keeper + woman worker, and an all around imperfect human. After having reflected on my homebirth, I was left with a fire stoking inside of me to assist and empower other radical and self-aware women to experience what truly integrous service looks + feels like. This is paramount to any undisturbed natural birth. I find joy in cooking nourishing meals, playing through laughter, song + dance, growing spiritually, creating herbal medicine that nourishes loved ones, and disentangling as much as I can from the programming of the enslavement/power-over paradigm internally and externally.

Are you a licensed practitioner?

No. I’m not a licensed practitioner, medical/licensed midwife, doctor, nor a nurse. I do not make decisions for mothers, instead I provide helpful or wise suggestions. I do not perform medical procedures such as sutures or cervical examinations. I am simply a woman who trusts and supports women to connect to their bodies innate intelligence in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Do you take insurance?

No, I do not take insurance at this time, but plan to in the near future. I offer sliding scale and create payment plans that best suits everyone’s needs. I’m also open to trade.

Where are you located? Where is your service range?

Currently I’m located in Nevada County, California, USA. I’m willing to drive up to a 2 hour radius. I may be available for longer distance depending on the case. I also offer virtual support. I am somewhat flexible and we can tailor to everyone’s needs.

Do you attend hospital births?

I’m a mother who has never given birth in a hospital, so assisting women in that realm feels very foreign to me. I feel that I can best serve women in home births where there are no infantilizing and hierarchical dynamics present, which truthfully can occur with a licensed practitioner. I will need robust communication, planning, and agreements made prior to the birth if a woman decides on having other birth support present to assess my role in the situation. In any rare case of a transfer, I will of course be a text or phone call away. Women who transfer will never be abandoned. At the least, postpartum care (meal train, planning, debriefing, etc.) would continue once you return home.

What if I want to do ultra sounds, testing, and/or cervical checks, in addition to working with you?

It is really and totally up to your discretion. I am here for you if you want to look over any results together only with the conscious intention of supporting what your body needs. I am not available for drama, argument, and debate with other licensed practitioners. My work is radical in that I fully trust what grown adults are/aren’t ready for in terms of who and what institutions they decide to put their faith in. I am here to serve families that are fully ready to take ownership of their health journeys and birth portal.

What is your mission?

My mission is to make dignified homebirth support accessible. The truth is, not all birth workers have the same energy nor quality. People approach this work with their own preconceived notions, programming, indoctrination, biases, beliefs, personality, etc. I believe pregnancy is a sacred rite of passage that deserves to be handled with great care, integrity, reverence, respect, non-judgement, and calm.
